Our Services
The Midwives House is more than a midwifery practice- it’s a shared space, a gathering place, a home for Melbourne’s
best maternity and holistic health practitioners.
A Home For Practitioners
The Midwives House is also a workspace for maternity and family focused professionals. We offer fully equipped consulting spaces for rent, creating a home for midwives, lactation consultants, bodyworkers, mental health practitioners, and other experts in women’s health.
Practitioners at The Midwives House run their own businesses, on their own terms- within a space that supports collaboration and care in the same way we support our clients.
At the heart of what we do is compassionate, evidence-based private midwifery care tailored to your unique journey.
Whether you’re:
- Planning a home birth
- Seeking antenatal or postnatal support
- Looking for shared care with a hospital
Our experienced, Endorsed Midwives provide continuity of care that keeps you informed, supported, and empowered every step of the way.
A One-Stop Destination for Care
Because we bring together some of Melbourne’s most trusted practitioners under one roof, our clients don’t have to run between multiple locations to get the care they need. Instead, they come here, to one place, one familiar environment, where their support team is all in one space.
Whether you’re looking for midwifery care, complementary therapies, doulas or a place to grow your own practice, The Midwives House is designed to
nurture, empower, and connect.
Located in Thornbury, we proudly serve families across Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
Our team of experienced midwives provide compassionate and expert care to enhance the well-being of you and your baby. We specialise in homebirth across Melbourne, but can provide continuity of care wherever women choose to birth. Trust us to support you every step of the way.
Our rooms are warm, spacious, and designed for practitioners who value autonomy and ease. With transparent pricing, you can book by the session or the day- whatever suits your practice. No politics, no unnecessary restrictions- just a beautiful space to work, connect, and care.
Join our community of mothers-to-be and new mums. Attend our educational workshops, support groups, and connect with other families. Explore the breadth and depth of offerings from our practitioners - truly the best in the business. Experience the warmth and camaraderie at The Midwives House.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY
Phoebe Stefanidis

Tessa and Sam are incredible to work with and are a calming and reassuring presence that made all the difference in my journey into the birth world!
They have created a space where I felt truly heard and empowered, to chase my ideal clients from the very beginning. If you’re looking for a space run by women who go above and beyond and care deeply, The Midwives House is the place and I am so grateful for them!

I recently taught the Hypnobirthing Australia™ Positive Birth Program over two days at The Midwives House. I absolutely loved teaching in this space. Tessa and Sam went out of their way to get the space ready for me, I’m used to having to fill an empty room, and I was set up in no time because they’d already set it up so beautifully before I got there! The kitchen is a place for connection and it all just feels like you’re coming into this gorgeous, welcoming home. Sit down, let’s chat, put the kettle on, be inspired. Just magic. I can’t wait to teach here again, there is an incredible energy about this space and I feel so privileged to be a part of it!
"just magic"

She had worked in a variety of settings and all of that solidified the idea that to provide true, gold standard care, opening her own practice was the way to go. Her focus remains on advocating for her clients and investing her time and energy into ongoing learning, big, expansive conversations with her clients and - hopefully having a bit of a laugh along the way.
