Sam consults weekly from The Midwives House
Sam is a registered Midwife with over 15 years experience. The focus of her practice is home birth, and she particularly enjoys caring for those planning a VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean).
It is her absolute pleasure to offer families a complete continuity of care service. Continuity of care means being able to provide antenatal care and education, birth support and complete post-natal care and breastfeeding support up to 6 weeks after birth.
She works to a midwifery philosophy that holds that pregnancy and birth are normal life events, not medical conditions. She believes that pregnancy is a special time and that pregnant folk require a special, close and trusting relationship with the person who will attend them in labour. This trust and connection is one of the important factors that make home birth a safe option for many.
In line with recommendations from the Australian College of Midwives, Sam works in accordance with the National Midwifery Guidelines for Consultation and Referral. She believes strongly in everyone's right to choose their care and to be fully informed about all factors that could affect those choices. As a midwife in private practice Sam can tailor your care to your needs, practice is not dictated by policy or time frames, but rather guided by the best quality scientific evidence available and your preferences.
Sam is a mother of two grown daughters and lives in Preston. She is a proud co-founder of The Midwives House.

Tessa consults on Tuesday afternoons from
The Midwives House
Tessa is a highly experienced private midwife with a deep commitment to woman-centered care. With eight years in midwifery (most of that time in private practice!) she has built a reputation for her nuanced understanding of physiological birth, her ability to hold space for complex emotions, and her unwavering support for women navigating their maternity journey.
As the co-founder of The Midwives House, she has created a space where midwives can thrive, offering not just rooms for practice but a collaborative environment for mentorship, professional growth, and deep conversations about the art and science of midwifery. Her approach blends evidence-based practice with a reverence for traditional midwifery wisdom, ensuring that the women she supports feel seen, heard, and deeply cared for.
Known for her introspective and thoughtful nature, she brings an analytical yet intuitive approach to midwifery- whether she’s supporting a birthing woman, debriefing with a colleague, or exploring the intersection of research and lived experience. Whether working one-on-one with clients or guiding midwives in private practice, she holds space with quiet authority, warmth, and an unshakable belief in the power of midwifery care.
Homebirth is a particular favourite, however she also thrives in providing continuity of care for women facing more complex pregnancies. Tessa understands that it is often these women who need the continuity of care experience, as well as empathy and a safe space to explore the many decisions they are faced with.

Our Statistics: 2021 - 2025
Although Sam and Tessa take primary responsibility for their own clients - they work closely together to ensure all clients receive the best possible care. They are proud to present their statistics over the last four years, again showing that homebirth with a private midwife is a safe, legitimate way to welcome your baby into the world.
